One: Something is up with Oscar. Sometimes he rips around his bowl like a fellow beta fish is chasing him and he fears for his life... and other times, he just spends long periods of time hugging the side of the bowl, looking a little bit.... lobsided. Now this is not my first fish. Oscar is my second fish. I know what happens when fish die. And to me, lobsided just seems like a step away from belly up. I don't really know what to do for him... but the other night I woke up and I knew that he was doing his furious swimming thing because I could hear the little plastic jewel things in the bottom of his bowl clinking around. To be honest, I really don't know how much longer Oscar will be with us. It could be hours, or days, or weeks, or months, or years. If you have anything you want to say to him, I would suggest doing it soon. Just in case. He is an excellent listener. I'm really going to miss that about him. But he's not dead yet! Just a little bit tilt-y. lol. Maybe he is just having balance problems!
Two: I am reading Annie Downs book "Perfectly Unique" and of course, it is saying all kinds of wise things in wonderfully simple, funny ways. And last night I was reading the chapter about glorifying God with your mouth, and part of Matthew 12:34 was used in the chapter. It says this: "For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of." And then I went to my Bible and read the verses all around it, and honestly, it left me feeling a little bit scared. Because they said this: "Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth god, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgement people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." (Matthew 12:33-37)
Words... they have the power to justify or condemn you.
And did you notice that you will be accountable for the the careless words too?
The words that you "didn't really mean" or "slipped out" or you "didn't think about".
You will be held accountable for every single one of them.
It's enough to make you seriously consider what comes out of your mouth, isn't it??
And it's not just a matter of controlling what comes out... because your words are only a reflection of what is in your heart. When Jesus said that people will be held accountable for what they say, He was also saying that they will held accountable for what is in their hearts. And I don't know about you... but sometimes there are things in my heart that should not be there.
I think this is a pretty serious thing... this responsibility of glorifying God with our mouths. And I think it has to be an intentional thing.
So yeah... watch what you say.
And keep Oscar in your thoughts! lol.
